Cruising with Carnival on the Carnival Liberty

Carnival Liberty

The holidays are such a crazy time. With all of the traveling, eating, shopping and spending time with family, you wake up and realize it’s January 1st! And at that moment, you begin to sit and reflect on what the previous year was like. For me, it was jam-packed with restaurant visits and travel.

Every year, my mom, step-dad and I take a family cruise. It has always been a tradition for my parents to cruise yearly, and I’ve managed to work my way into the fold lol. I suggested that we take a 3-day cruise over the Thanksgiving holiday on the Carnival Liberty and they were game.

Cruising has been one our favorite ways to travel and for several good reasons. The food, relaxation or visiting multiple destinations in one trip. Lets explore the many reasons why cruising is a great way to vacation.

Food and Drinks

Cruising has become synonymous with endless buffets that will have you gain 10lbs on one cruise. If you step away from the buffet, you will discover that there are so many other food and beverage options onboard this floating city. It just so happens that for our 3-day cruise, we were going to be on the Carnival Liberty, a ship we’d been on twice before.

It has been our little tradition that as soon as we get on the ship we head straight to Guy’s Burger Joint to get fresh handmade burgers with seasoned fries. This burger melts in your and you have the option to dress up your burger with various toppings from the toppings bar that includes, caramelized onions and sautéed mushrooms.

The Buffet

The buffet is your go-to if you want lots of options. You have everything from salads, meat carving stations, stir-fry and BBQ.

Seafood Shack

The Seafood Shack was not featured on the Carnival Liberty the last time I was on the ship, so it was a welcomed upgrade. For an additional fee, you can get some of the freshest seafood prepared to-order. I decided to try some peel and eat shrimp that was simply steamed with Old Bay seasoning. Although the some of the restaurants and food stations onboard have an additional cost, it has always been well worth it and oftentimes not that expensive for what you get. The 1/2lb of peel and eat shrimp I ordered was only $6.

Surf and Turf at Diamonds Steakhouse

Diamonds Steakhouse

Another tradition for our family, is to have dinner at the onboard Steakhouse. Diamonds Steakhouse on the Carnival Liberty is fantastic and provides the same upscale experience you receive at any high-end steakhouse on dry land. The best part is that for a set price of $35 you can still order as much as you want.

Sea Day Brunch

On cruises 3-days or longer, you will always have a day at sea. That means you can sleep in a little later and by the time you get up, it will be just in time for brunch in one of the main dining rooms.

You won’t be bored

This was the first time I’d ever been on a 3-day cruise because my family and I usually take 7-day cruises. When I tell people that they always say, “Damn, I would be so board on a cruise that long!” Honestly, I love it because there is always something to do. Carnival isn’t known as “The Fun Ship” for no reason. I say that you are only bored on a cruise because you want to be.

You can take in one of the numerous shows in the theatre, watch movies on the Lido Deck, watch a comedy show, get your gambling on in the casino or dance the night away in the Nightclub. Everyday a newsletter with onboard activities for the day is delivered to your room, so you always know what fun activities are going on.

One of best ways to detach and relax (If you want)

In addition to the abundance of food and activities, if relaxation is what you want, you can surely have it on a cruise. The internet can be a bit spotty, so you have no choice but to detach from the outside world and just be present in the moment. For a little quiet time, I always head up to Serenity Spa which is adults only. It has its own bar, hot tubs and fantastic views. I was able to catch a couple of zzz’s and breathe in the fresh ocean air

Multiple places to visit in one trip

Although my cruise on the Carnival Liberty was only 3 days, I typically take 7 day cruises. The ability to explore several destinations in one trip has always appealed to me. The ship docks early in the morning and departs in the late afternoon or evening which gives you all day to tour the destination or in my case, find authentic food!

Lido Deck – Where a lot of the fun happens!

The Carnival Liberty is not the newest ship in the fleet, but having been on the ship three times it is clean, the food is fantastic and the staff aboard is great. I look forward to sharing with you all some of my tips for cruising in an upcoming post so be on the lookout for that! 😊
