RaceTrac’s new remodel has taken their stores up a notch with its current refresh initiative, adding in their new fresh made-to-order concept that combines the convenience we all know and love, with fresh sandwiches, wraps, smoothies and even pizza. I have to admit that I had my reservations about the new food concept, because for me, a “gas station” is the last place I think of when it comes to fresh food. But I was pleasantly surprised.
I recently had my first look at a RaceTrac remodeled location in Marietta off Canton Rd., that far exceeded my expectations.
RaceTrac’s primary focus for the remodel has been on its Georgia and Louisiana stores with millions of dollars invested. The stores have essentially been stripped down to the bare bones and have been updated and expanded to include several food areas in addition to indoor and outdoor seating.
When walking in, I immediately noticed how clean the store was. RaceTrac’s top priority is the cleanliness and sanitation of the entire store. In addition to cleanliness, some distinct architectural features that you will notice, is that each area of the store has it’s own look and feel. Taking a walk through the store, was like walking into several different stores all in one.
While offering up convenience, RaceTrac’s New Fresh Food Made-To-Order (soon to be called “RaceTrac Made”) station has the look and feel of a deli. The clear glass allows you to watch as the staff prepares your items. Chef Ashleigh Michaels, RaceTrac’s Executive Corporate Chef, gave us a tour of the area and walked us through some of the customer menu favorites like the meatball sub and the chicken bacon ranch.
The speciality beverage program at RaceTrac includes milkshakes and smoothies. The milkshakes are made with real milk and different fruits and candies from their partners that include, Hershey’s, Oreos and Mars. The milkshake flavors include Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry, Salted Caramel Truffle and Cookies & Crème. I had a chance to taste a couple of smoothies, that are made with yogurt and fresh fruit and my personal favorite was the strawberry banana. It’s a must try! I loved it so much, that I had to take one to go.
The grab-and-go case is ideal when in a hurry and features items like pizza, empanadas and breakfast sandwiches. The empanadas come in beef and chicken, which are delicious. The breakfast sandwiches include ham, egg and cheese croissant, sausage and egg, cheese biscuit, chicken biscuit and sausage biscuit and you can always custom build your own.
When putting together the menu, Chef Ashleigh was sure to share with us the importance of using high-quality ingredients while balancing healthy with good taste. All of the bread is prepared specifically for RaceTrac and the chips to accompany the sandwiches and wraps are RaceTrac’s own private label brand. I can really appreciate how well thought out the sourcing of ingredients are as well as the menu.
Who doesn’t love ice cream or fro-yo? RaceTrac is helping you tap into your inner child with “Swirl World”, the newest addition with the RaceTrac remodel. For the kiddos or the kid in you, enjoy frozen yogurt, gelato, Italian ice and sorbet. The icing on the cake…or in this case ice cream, is the toppings bar with over 40 toppings to choose from. Cookies, nuts, sprinkles, syrups…you name it, Swirl World has it! None of us could resist filling up a cup of fro-yo and topping it with our favorites.
It has always been a part of my morning routine to stop into RaceTrac for a cup of joe. I mean, the price is unbeatable and you have a chance to be your own “barista” by combining your favorite blend of coffee with your favorite sweeteners and toppings. Keeping with the theme of RaceTrac’s remodel, the coffee bar also has its own unique feel. The darker tones of the area reminds you of your favorite coffee shop.
In addition to your standard cup of coffee, RaceTrac will soon be offering espresso-based beverages like lattes, cappuccino, espresso shots and hot chocolate. Soon, they will also be offering iced or hot options that will be customizable with different flavor shots like hazelnut and vanilla.
Another cool RaceTrac remodel addition is the covered patio. RaceTrac is encouraging the idea of not just being a place to get gas, but to be a place that expands on the conveniences we all love. After you’ve grabbed a sandwich, coffee or ice cream, you can head out onto the patio. The retractable garage doors are open in the Summer to allow the breeze through and are closed in the Winter to keep the area warm. I can’t forget to mention that RaceTrac does offer free WiFi so if you’re on the go, you can stop and get some work done if you need to.
I have to say that the RaceTrac remodel is pretty awesome and the additions to the store are all conveniences I would use. This new concept has now put RaceTrac to the forefront as not just a convenience store, but a destination.
Until next time…Happy Eating!! xoxo
