Urban Cookhouse Sandy Springs is one of the newest restaurants to make its way to Atlanta. With restaurant locations around the South, the menu focuses on using fresh ingredients supplied by local farmers and the meats and seafood for the dishes are prepared using the Big Green Egg. There is a huge focus on knowing where your food comes from and Urban Cookhouse Sandy Springs is not only supporting Georgia farmers, but they will also sponsor and manage an annual farmers market at all of their locations.
Urban Cookhouse Sandy Springs has a wide variety of items that includes salads, sandwiches, wraps as well as some “fork and knife” entrees. What I also love is that they have beer on tap as well as bottled and canned.

Using the Big Green Egg to prepare the seafood and meats is an awesome idea because you are able to seal in the flavor without any additional fat. I decided to try an entree from the “fork and knife” side of the menu and went with the wood-fired shrimp kabobs that was served with a flavorful rice pilaf, garden salad and shrimp kabobs with zucchini and squash. All of the meals are served with the warm orange roll which kind of reminds me of a cinnamon roll (without the cinnamon lol) that has just a hint of orange flavor. It’s really good! The shrimp kabobs had a wonderful, delightful smokey flavor from the local hickory wood used on the Big Green Egg.
In addition to the entree, I also tried the pepper patch salad which is a must try! It has black beans, corn, red onion, tomatoes, pepper jack cheese, red and green peppers served with the roasted jalapeno vinaigrette. I took the menu recommendation and added the lime-marinated steak. I really enjoyed how fresh all of the ingredients were. The corn was sweet and tasted as if it was cut fresh off of the cobb. Although the flavors were there, the lime-marinated steak wasn’t my favorite as the meat was on the tough side. I think I would have really enjoyed this salad with the fire-grilled shrimp instead. Overall, this is a great salad and the portion size is perfect.
I think UC is a great alternative for lunch, dinner and especially after a workout. The items are filling but it won’t leave you feeling heavy and the price point is excellent. The restaurant is also casual and family friendly.
