I was on the phone with my mom, headed to pick up something to eat, when I noticed that a Bonefish Grill was being built near Cumberland Mall. The closest location is in Alpharetta and I don’t get out that way very often. So to now have one in my backyard is exciting. My first experience with Bonefish was over 10 years ago when I lived in Charlotte for a short period of time for work. I had an insane meal budget for my job ($45 per day) so yea, I ate pretty well and would eat at Bonefish Grill at least once a week.
I had my friend Erica from A Taste of Our City tag along with me this trip so we could catch up. You guys know the drill by now, so you know we started out the evening with cocktails. Bonefish has an eclectic menu of hand-crafted martinis and cocktails all of which compliments the wide array of seafood offerings.
The Wild Orchid Hawaiian Martini has Cruzan Guava rum mixed with pineapple juice, Zico coconut water, pear and coconut and is garnished with a beautiful edible orchid. This martini is fruity and sweet and the taste of the wild orchid kind of reminds me of passion fruit. Erica went with the Parker’s Margarita, named after one of the Bonefish Grill’s founders, was made with Patron tequila mixed with fresh OJ and Grand Marnier. If you’re looking for strong margarita without being overly sour, this is it!
When deciding what appetizers to have, I looked around the dining room to see what others were ordering. I noticed order after order of the Bang Bang shrimp coming out of the kitchen and our waitress Nellie said that it was the most popular appetizer on the menu, so that’s what we went with. The shrimp is fried crispy and tossed in a creamy spicy sauce. It has the perfect amount of spice that anyone can eat.
We also ordered the jumbo lump crab cakes which were delicious and was all lump crab meat. There was no extra filling or breading and it was lightly fried.
Absolut Vodka that is infused with pineapples and done in-house, is muddled with fresh mango and mixed with lemon juice and garnished with jalapeño. It’s refreshing with a hint of spice. If you want to be a bit more daring request that they make it “extra spicy”.
What attracts me to Bonefish Grill is its simple take on its seasonally fresh seafood and vegetables. The food is simply prepared with light seasoning which allows you to really taste the seafood. Erica and I, both went with grilled options of salmon and shrimp and scallops. All of the grilled seafood has options of sauces to accompany them and can be put on your dish or served on the side. With my lightly seasoned grilled salmon, I had a side of lemon butter and sautéed green beans and the truffle mac and cheese as my sides. The green beans were flavorful and crunchy and the mac and cheese was creamy with just a hint of truffle flavor. Truffles can sometimes be overpowering.
You have to end the meal with dessert and we went for the chocolate creme brulee. It had a soft chocolate flavor with a creamy, melt in your mouth texture, with a crunchy and sugary topping like your typical creme brulee.
Bonefish Grill is the ideal choice when you want to indulge in seafood for a reasonable price. Its great for families, a casual date or to catch up with friends. The menu has a wide offering and the service is outstanding. Thank you to our server Nellie, who made awesome recommendations and thank you to the Bonefish Grill team for the invitation. I can’t wait to return!
